 OST files are used by Microsoft Outlook as standard offline storage containers for Exchange Server accounts. In layman's terms, it means that these files store complete copies of users' Exchange accounts and are periodically synchronized with them. Similarly to the more common PST files, they contain all your emails, attachments, contacts, notes, journal entries and tasks. However, one of the most typical (and serious) problems that Exchange users periodically face is the unavailability of their email and other Outlook items when the Exchange server goes down or their Exchange account is accidentally deleted.
